Get ready to paint the town red, white, and blue! Denver, Colorado’s gearing up for a star-spangled celebration that’ll knock your patriotic socks off. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 9, 2024, because the Mile High City is rolling out the red carpet for our veterans with a day full of fun, gratitude, and good old American spirit.

Run, Forest, Run!

Kick off your day with the 16th Annual Denver Veterans Day Run at City Park. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or more of a “run to the fridge” type, there’s something for everyone. Choose between a 5K or 10K, and if you’re feeling extra spicy, tackle the 10K Rippetoe Rucksack Challenge. Just strap on a 25-pound backpack and channel your inner G.I. Joe. It’s like CrossFit met patriotism and had a baby.

The run starts at 8:30 AM, so set those alarms! Don’t worry, sleepyheads. You can hit snooze once or twice. Remember, freedom doesn’t sleep in, nor should you on this special day.

March to the Beat of Freedom

After you’ve worked up a sweat (or a light glow for our more leisurely participants), it’s time for the main event: the Denver Veterans Day Parade. Starting at 10:30 AM, the parade will wind its way through City Park, showcasing a colorful array of participants.

Expect to see everything from crisp military units and ROTC squads to classic car enthusiasts proudly cruising by. Local high school marching bands will provide the soundtrack to your patriotism, while veteran organizations remind us why we’re all here. And let’s not forget the businesses who’ve come out to show their support – because nothing says “America” quite like a mix of community spirit and capitalism.

Festival of Red, White, and Woo-hoo!

Once the parade wraps up, the party’s just getting started. The Denver Veterans Day Festival starts at 9:30 AM and keeps the good times rolling until 2:00 PM. It’s like a county fair. I met a military museum and decided to throw a block party.

Vendor booths will pop up faster than you can say “God Bless America,” offering everything from veteran resources to star-spangled souvenirs. Bring the kids along for family-friendly activities, or treat your taste buds to a tour of Colorado’s finest food vendors. You might even find a food truck selling apple pie – it doesn’t get more American than that!

Why All the Fuss?

You might wonder, “Why go to all this trouble?” Well, folks, it’s simple. This shindig isn’t just about having a good time (though that’s certainly part of it). It’s about showing our veterans we appreciate their service, sacrifice, and dedication to keeping our country safe and free.

The Colorado Veterans Project, the masterminds behind this patriotic extravaganza, aren’t just throwing a party. They’re on a mission to support veterans and active-duty service members transitioning to civilian life. They’re all about helping our heroes find meaningful careers, start businesses, and continue living lives full of purpose. So when you participate in these events, you’re not just waving a flag but actively supporting our veterans.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “This sounds amazing, but how do I get in on the action?” Well, my fellow freedom enthusiasts, it’s easier than getting ketchup on your shirt at a Fourth of July barbecue.

For the run, head over to DenverVeteransRun.com and sign up faster than you can say “U-S-A!” Want to strut your stuff in the parade? Visit DenverVeteransDay.com to register your group. If you want to hawk your wares or share some info about the festival, check out DenverVetFestival.com.

The Bottom Line

Listen up, Denver! This isn’t just another day off work. It’s not about mattress sales or barbeques (though those are pretty great, too). This is our chance to show our veterans that we’ve got their backs, just like they’ve always had ours.

So, whether you’re running, marching, eating, or just cheering from the sidelines, make sure you’re part of Denver’s 2024 Veterans Day celebration. It will be a red, white, and blue bash for the ages, right in the heart of City Park.

Freedom isn’t free, but this event sure is! So come on down, bring your family and friends, and most importantly, bring your gratitude. Let’s show our veterans that Denver can say “thank you” in style!
